A Memorable and Unique Elopement in Palmerston North

Kyra and Dylan

The idea of having a unique elopement is not always the first thing that will pop up in your head. But for Kyra and Dylan, who have been together for 7 years, having a “no muss, no fuss” kind-of-wedding seemed the best idea. Kyra continues, “After deciding to keep our engagement a secret until we figured out what kind of wedding we wanted we started talking about all our wedding options and both having big families meant things were very quickly blowing out of proportion and a traditional wedding just didn’t seem to suit us as a couple. Dylan is the type who does not like the spotlight and me being pretty the “no muss no fuss”. We came to the conclusion that we just wanted to be married and loved the idea of it just being the two of us. So, we decided that we would get married at our home in Palmerston North, have our photos taken and then fly to Kerikeri to surprise my parents.”

Their wedding day is nothing but beautiful. They took their time to go out and have breakfast together, and then went home to get ready. “Dressed and ready to go, Dylan waited for me out on the deck while I walked down the aisle, our hallway.  We wrote our own ceremony and vows, exchanged rings, kiss, signed the certificate and like that we were MARRIED!” Kyra shared.

What made this unique elopement memorable is when they went straight to the airport still in full wedding attire with a bouquet in hand to fly out to Kerikeri to surprise Kyra’s parents. Kyra told us, “We have talked to over 100 people in the two airports (Auckland and Kerikeri) that day and all of them have kind words of encouragement to say and a couple of wedding stories of their own. It was an amazing experience in itself. In Kerikeri, we were the last to leave the plane.  Surprising my parents was wonderful. Everyone in both our families was overjoyed to hear of our elopement. Many congratulating us for having the courage to do what made us happy. It truly was the most fantastic day and everything we dreamed it would be.”
